Gidon Eshel, a research professor at Bard College and his two colleagues estimated that beef production generated five times more greenhouse gases, needed six times more fertiliser and 11 times more irrigation water, and used 28 times the land as compared to dairy, poultry, pork, and eggs.

On Thursday, April 16 through Friday, April 17, Bard College, with support from the Henry Luce Foundation, will host the Asia/Environment Student Research Conference on campus in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. The conference is the first of an annual series, and is sponsored by the Bard Center for Environmental Policy. The focus of the conference will be on the challenges of sustainable development and the impact of rapid economic growth in Asia on local and global environmental issues.
