Bard alumna and Oberlin professor Julia Christensen '00 has received a prestigious Creative Capital grant to build DIY video projectors out of reclaimed electronic waste.

Bard is once again participating in the national RecycleMania college competition. Last year we won in the Food Service Organics category. In the first two weeks of this year’s contest, the College had recycled 11,499 pounds of paper, cardboard, and containers and composted more than 27,300 pounds of food scraps.

The Clif Bar Family Foundation has invested $100,000 in Bard’s new MBA in Sustainability. This innovative “program related investment” comes in the form of a low-interest loan that will support the program through its startup phase.

On Tuesday, February 19, Bard College will host a talk and discussion with Salim B. “Sandy” Lewis, a Wall Street leader, founder of his firm, who now, with his wife, is the owner and operator of Lewis Family Farm in Essex, New York, a beef farm with a unique USDA certificate in grass. Lewis will explore “Why Fixing Wall Street and the Economy is Critical to the World” in a discussion with Matt Taibbi ’92, the renowned political and financial columnist for Rolling Stone.

The Landscape and Arboretum Program at Bard College and the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) are offering noncredit continuing education classes at Bard College this winter and spring. Open to the public, these classes feature some of the top names in the horticulture industry and cover a wide array of topics.

The Bard Center for Environmental Policy’s C2C Fellows will host a national screening of the movie The Island President on April 17. The film will be shown on a number of college campuses, and followed by a discussion with award-winning director Jon Shenk, 350.org executive director and cofounder May Boeve, and Bard CEP director Dr. Eban Goodstein.

The Bard College Farm started in 2012 with plenty of enthusiasm and financial assistance from Bard students, staff, and faculty, as well as community members. Last season the farm grew 30 kinds of vegetables and had the largest cranberry bog in the Hudson Valley. The farm sells produce to the campus dining service and at a local farmer's market, and offers opportunities for people on and off campus to learn about sustainable agriculture.

During the weekend of November 30 – December 2, Bard College will host the northeast regional C2C Fellows Sustainability Leadership Workshop. Directed by Eban S. Goodstein, director of the Bard Center for Environmental Policy (Bard CEP) and dean of the Bard MBA in Sustainability, the workshop offers training to college students and recent graduates aspiring to become sustainability leaders in politics and business.
